Well, according to director
Sébastien Vaniček, the theatrical cut of the movie won’t be quite as brutal as the Director’s Cut he hopes to release on home video down the road.
Vaniček tells SFX Magazine (via
Games Radar), “
There is a scene that is not R-rated. It’s a really, really hard scene. And I have to cut it, unfortunately, so you just won’t experience it as brutally as it is right now because I need to have the R-rated movie. So we are trying to find a good balance.”
The outlet notes that this interview was conducted before
Evil Dead Burn officially received its ‘R’ rating, so it seems Vaniček was ultimately able to make the MPA happy with his edits.
“The director’s cut will be way more violent than what we will have in the theater,” Vaniček promises.
Even still,
Evil Dead Burn is being promoted as “the franchise’s most savage and terrifying ride to date,” so there will be no shortage of bloody violence in the rated ‘R’ theatrical cut!
